mother & daughter back to school beauty with Kohl's!

This post is sponsored by Kohl's and Collective Voice. All opinions are my own.

Thank you for supporting the brands that support his blog.

Back to school season is here and along with new daily routines, it's time to add in some new beauty routines as well! There is nothing like the fresh start of a new school year and I'm ready to press 'reset' after a fun but hectic summer.  I feel like I say this every summer, but this summer went by in a blink and it started a year ago. I can't quite wrap my head around it all and it's just like that, it's over!  This fall my daughter will be a junior and she and I headed to Sephora at Kohl's to find some back-to-school beauty finds that will kick off the fall season right. And of course, with all things 'mother/daughter' related... there will be some "borrowing" going on here. We found so many great finds that we can't wait to share with you today!

Right now you can get an extra 15% off your order over $100 with code CATCH15OFF and you can earn both Kohl's Rewards and Sephora Beauty Insider Points when you shop Sephora at Kohl's

What my daughter is loving for fall:

This has a gorgeous shimmer finish and I love to use with my Glow Recipe Dew Drops. (And mom is definitely borrowing this one... it's *gorgeous* in person)

This set is the perfect size to put in your school backpack. All three smell amazing and keep my skin hydrated and smooth.

This set comes with the Guava Vitamin C Bright-Eye Gel Cream and the Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops. They eye cream helps brighten my eye area on early mornings and the Dew Drops leave your skin perfectly glow and hydrated all day long.

What I'm loving for fall:

What says 'back to school" more than a new lip gloss? Even though I won't be heading to the classroom this fall I am still excited to pop a new lip gloss in my purse on that first crisp morning. This one is so soft and perfectly shiny without being sticky. And the scent is subtle but beautiful. I already want to try some of the other colors!

After super sweaty tennis sessions outdoors this summer and too much dry shampoo my scalp was feeling out of sorts and my felt like it wasn't getting clean enough with regular shampoo. This one has great reviews and it's *just* what my end-of-summer hair needed. I only use it once a week or every other week and it gets my hair and scalp super clean - I can tell right away! Plus, I can be a little sensitive to scents and this one is really nice and light.  I highly recommend!

I am a blush LOVER. It makes my skin look instantly alive and I'm always collecting new colors. This formulation is really nice and soft with a great color payoff. Plus, I love that it's a blush and highlighter in one, so it makes putting on makeup in the morning super quick. I love a little bit of highlight or glow and this delivers and it's the perfect warm pink for fall!

mother + daughter spring beauty with Kohl's!

This post is sponsored by Kohl's and Collective Voice. All opinions are my own.

Thank you for supporting the brands that support this blog.

The fresh start of a new season always feels so good. I've been busy cleaning out closets, junk drawers and generally resetting lots of areas of my life now that spring has officially arrived. Longer sunnier days are just what we all need after a long winter. It's the perfect time of year to refresh everything from closets to my makeup routine.

My daughter and I recently went shopping for some fresh beauty finds for spring at Kohl's. They carry all your favorite beauty brands with Sephora at Kohl's! I was looking to add some fresh color to my spring beauty routine and my daughter wanted a refresh on some everyday basics. We both found our favorite brands like Merit, Tan-Luxe, Ilia, Fenty Beauty and Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez.

We got FREE and fast shipping from Kohl's and right now you can take advantage of an extra 15% off your purchase of $100+ with code: CATCH15OFF. Read on to see what new favorites we are loving from Sephora at Kohl's....

My daughter's picks:

Why she loves it: I love the Rare Beauty Highlighter in the shade Exhilarate. This highlighter is the perfect not-too-chalky, soft texture and goes on very lightly.

Why she loves it: I love the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb because it doesn't go on thick or sticky. After using it my lips feel plump and hydrated.

Why she loves it: The Tan-Luxe Super Glow Drops are perfect if you want a little bit of glow and a little bit of tan. I love this product because it's the perfect shade of bronze and it has SPF 30.
Why mom loves it too: These drops are super subtle and glowy for that just back from the beach look with no streaking (it's not permanent) and it's easy to add to your daily moisturizer. I'll be borrowing this one from my daughter for sure.

My picks:
Why I love it: This is the perfect soft slip gloss that isn't sticky and adds just a hint of color. It's perfect for everyday wear and already has a permanent spot in my "purse" lipgloss collection. I'm in shade "Au Naturale"

Why I love it: This bronzer in shade "Drawn In" packs a punch and a little goes a long way. I use my fingers to dab a little on my cheekbones like blush for a fresh from outside look.

Why I love it: I'm never fully dressed without blush and this Merit blush is my favorite brand. I went with shade Beverly Hills and it has the perfect sun-bronzed hue that complements the Ilia Bronzer really nicely. They make a great pair.

affordable and thoughtful hair care with Native & Walmart!

This post is sponsored by Walmart and ShopStyle Collective. All opinions are my own.
Thank you for supporting the brands that support this blog.

I'm super excited to share a recent beauty product I discovered that has been an instant favorite. I recently tried the Native hair care line from Walmart and I am in LOVE. The Native hair care line is thoughtfully formulated with less than 10 ingredients to make your hair look and feel it's best. I love that the Native hair care line is formulated without parabens, sulfates, silicons or dyes. Each bottle lists the very limited ingredients and the purpose for each ingredient. I'm definitely a label reader when it comes to beauty products and I'm always on the lookout for safer beauty formulations. Native hair care is also cruelty-free and vegan.

I love that Native's formulations also deliver when it comes to perfectly soft and manageable hair. Two things I noticed immediately is that the shampoo offers a really deep clean the first wash and without tangles. I often have to wash my hair twice after using dry shampoo and this shampoo washed it super clean the first time. I also struggle with tangled hair after the shower and I loved that getting a brush through my wet hair was super simple even without a detangler. All the Native hair care are UNDER $10 so it's also budget friendly compared to most salon products.

My favorite so far has been the Almond & Shea Butter shampoo and conditioner. My husband loves the Cucumber & Mint shampoo and conditioner (wow, it smells so fresh!) and my daughter has already snagged the Coconut & Vanilla shampoo and conditioner from my shower to keep as her own. The whole family loves it! Walmart carries the entire Native hair care line and you can get FREE super fast 2-day shipping for all orders over $35. My order arrived in just 36 hours from when I placed it! Talk about fast!

And while you are stocking up on new shampoo and conditioner, be sure to check out this adorable cardigan that I am wearing too... it's the perfect piece for early spring and is available in a few colors too! (I went up a size to medium)

recent favorite beauty items!

Today I am rounding up a few of my current favorite beauty items. Recently I've tried some new items and discovered new favorites and also have resisted some old favorites, remembering how much I love them. Today's mix is some new and old... but all of them have been proven by me, I never talk about a beauty product until I've tried it thoroughly and decided I love it. I'm also super picky. I've tried some new items this summer that I didn't care for either. Those I left off for brevity, my point is all of these items are the cream that rises to the top.

Let's take a look...

Melting Body Balm - I have dry skin year round, but in the summer just more of it is showing. You know? Also shaving my legs constantly makes them SO dry. This balm smells amazing and is super thick and luxurious insuring that dry skin in tanks and shorts and dresses is a NON issue. It's such a unique product and one I now count as a summer AND winter must have.

Summer Fridays Overtime Mask - I love a good face exfoliation in the summer. Sweat and sunscreen often leave my face feeling so gunky and in need of a deep clean. This scrub is JUST that. You scrub it on for a few minutes and then let it set for 10-15. I've noticed instant improvement in texture and glow when I use this mask and it's even better when I use it a few times a week.

Countersun Daily SPF - I don't love wearing SPF. It's definitely a necessary evil for me. But of all the SPF for face I've tried (and it's a lot) this mineral formula is the most lightweight and sheer. It truly feels like I'm not wearing SPF at all, and that is just how I like it.

Lip Jelly lip gloss - these are the PERFECT summer glosses. I love lip gloss all year round, but these just feel like they shine (literally) in the summer. I love the light scent and pillowy soft finish for a fresh summer look.

True Botanicals Nutrient Mist - I'm not big into face mists but I tried this one earlier this spring and I really love it. I usually spritz on mid day for a refresh or as a final step to my skincare in the evening. It smells great and gives an instant glow.

Beautycounter Mascara - I'm a devoted safe skincare junkie. Mascara is a product in the safe beauty industry that has always been difficult for me. Finding a formulation that avoids potentially harmful ingredients AND truly performs well hasn't been easy. This new mascara from Beautycounter is incredible! It truly works magic on my eyelashes!

KORA Noni Oil - I love a face oil, yes, even in the summer! This one gets super high ratings and I agree. It smells great, sinks into the skin without feeing greasy and the packaging is gorgeous too.  I went with the smaller size to test this product.

Cream Eyeshadows - I am no pro when it comes to makeup. I need SUPER simple products that are easy to use. Powder eye shadows always seemed challenging to apply and I never knew if I got it right. With these new cream shadows, they are so easy to apply I never worry if I put them on wrong. Plus you can layer them for a subtle or bold look. Colors shown: Gleam, Luster, Sepia

How to manage teenage acne!

Today's post is going to be all about how I dealt with my sons teenage acne. I wanted to avoid Accutane and harsh chemicals and was ready to think WAY outside the box in order to do so. Keep in mind, I am NOT a doctor or a medical professional. You should ask a professional before starting any of these treatment options if you don't feel comfortable with them or have questions. I also think there are a few steps here and there you could skip if you don't feel comfortable with them and get good results. I think the following steps will get you the BEST results, but you and your teen have to choose what you feel most comfortable with. My son had whiteheads, black heads, active pimples and cystic pimples when we first stared this plan. Really, it was a bit of everything. We tried LOTS of things, but in the end, this is the cheatsheet of what really worked for us. There are tons of variables and every teen will have a different diet, different type of skin and different ability to stick to a routine when it comes to managing teen acne. This is what worked for us. It took quite a while to get it figured out but once we did it was like a lightbulb! Also note that we started this plan last winter (January 2021) and since then my son has fallen off the wagon a bit with the routine and really with teens it's always good to remember progress over perfection. For the month of August, we are going back to being super diligent again to get back on track for back to school... so it's a constant work in progress.

Here is the step by step we used and why/how...

Teen acne is so tough since their diets (junk food 24/7!) and their lifestyle (sweaty sports, and not always great with keeping a routine) can really make all the raging hormones even worse.  This is what worked for us...

Step 1: Try to eliminate acne causing foods. For us it was SUGAR & DAIRY.

This is probably the most difficult step. Our teen is driving, buying food with friends, eating at friends houses, etc. But for our situation sugar and dairy were two HUGE triggers for acne. A big huge glass of milk and a box of Mike & Ike's is a healthy snack, right!?!? Haha. This will likely be the most difficult to control, so we had an honest conversation about it with our son and just reminded him that to help the acne clear up it was important to keep sugar and dairy IN MIND at least. Try, try, try to limit it. There are some health professionals that will swear that diet doesn't matter. That was NOT our experience (or even my own personal experience - dairy ALWAYS makes me break out). Be ready to think outside the box and be ready to try less conventional ways to fight acne.

Step 2: Bring in the professionals, at least once.

After wearing masks for school, sports and work last fall and just the regular teen hormones, my sons face was really struggling come winter. I took him for an extraction facial just to get the bulk of the black heads and whiteheads removed safely. It can be painful, but it heals so quickly. Make sure you ask when scheduling an appt if your skin spa works with teens regularly. I've found that some spas do and some don't. If you are local, we went to Skin Renewal Center and they were great and work with teens a lot. They also wanted to sell us a $1000 teen skincare package. Wow... my plan here won't cost near that, but the facial was amazing to get a head start on eliminating the acne.

Step 3: Start DIM supplements.

Again, I am NOT a doctor. Talk to a health professional about this step if you don't feel comfortable - or there are LOTS of great articles if you google it. A woman giving me a facial told me about it when I was asking for tips about teen acne and this arguably was the MOST pivotal step for my son. DIM supplements can usually be found in the women's health section of a health food store. We bought ours directly from Grand Pearl Spa locally where they recommended it to me initially. We did TWO DIM capsules a day for the first bottle and saw improvements almost right away. It was crazy. Then I bought a second bottle and did one capsule a day for him for about 2 more weeks. My understanding is that this supplement is for short term use. It helps get over the hump of the worst of the acne. Total he took DIM for less than 6 weeks.

Step 4: Get on a skincare routine and stick with it.

This is tough for many teens (mine included) so there was lots of parental involvement in this one. Basically me chasing my son around with skincare every night or constantly reminding him. But it was worth it. I will lay out my favorites and you can decide what works best for you, but I will say that high quality products make a huge difference here. I go for safe ingredients and don't mind spending a little extra than drug-store prices because I believe it truly makes a difference AND because it's worth the investment. Accutane is super expensive and potentially dangerous and treating acne scars as an adult is also super expensive. This is an investment that's worth it.

Morning:

- Wash with cleanser with salicylic acid which is for preventing/treating acne. We like this one.

- Moisturize with a high quality moisturizer that doesn't have fragrances or ingredients that could possibly contain hormone disrupters. Dryness can increase the number and severity of breakouts since dry skin can become cracked and let in more bacteria. Teens often think DRY skin equals clear skin, but it's just not true. Healthy skin equals clear skin. We like this one.

Evening:

- Wash with cleanser with salicylic acid again.

Alternating nights: Treat with a BHA/AHA serum. This helps exfoliate the skin while you sleep and clears up existing breakouts while working to combat new breakouts. We like this one, this one is similar too.

- Moisturize!

Step 5: Incorporate microneedling into your skincare routine.

At home microneedling can be super affordable and effective with both clearing up acne, working to heal existing acne and over the long term minimizing hyperpigmentation from acne scars. It's something I've used myself on acne and my son has seen tremendous improvement from doing it regularly as well. Microneedling is simply spurring on the healing process of the skin by making minuscule holes in the skin which prompt the skin to "repair." I personally use it every time I feel a breakout coming on to avoid the pimple all together and then after any breakouts to heal quicker. I use a GloPro, but my son has used this cheaper option from Amazon that works great too. I replace my GloPro head once a year, for the Amazon option, I would replace it every 6 months, especially with regular use. ALWAYS disinfect the micro needler after use, the GloPro comes with a small bottle you will with alcohol to spray it down. Otherwise buy a small spray bottle and fill it with alcohol.  Sanitary use of the microneedler is key!

Step 6: Incorporate a quality and powerful mask once a week.

Masks can be super effective at clearing out tough acne, keeping it away and helping to heal the skin over the long term. There are 3 that my son has used and that I highly recommend. I will list them in ascending order to how strong they are. Some of these might be too strong at first if there is a lot of active acne but as the acne clears up these are great for continuing to keep the acne away and clearing up any lingering acne. This charcoal mask is great for the whole face, or just spot treating trouble areas or breakouts. I regularly use it on the areas where I break out most (chin and lower cheeks, for me and the t-zone for my son). These peel pads are super easy for teens to use and quite strong. I love that they are so conveniently packaged. This mask is super strong and both my son and I use it to treat the whole face, it stings at first but goes away and may cause redness the first few times you use it. Start with 7-10 minutes if you or your teen is sensitive to it and work up to 20 minutes or so.

sunscreen I love!

Sunscreen and SPF is a love/hate relationship for me... of course I love it for keeping my skin safe and healthy and looking young. But A LOT of sunscreens just don't work for my skin. Whether it's for my face or my body, my skin has had adverse reactions to SPF in the past and same with daughter. So when I shop for sunscreen I am very, very picky. Plus, it's important to me that our sunscreen be safe from potentially harmful ingredients and to be reef safe. We don't always swim in the ocean, but when we do I don't want it to be harmful to the aquatic life and so across the board we choose reef safe products.

Today I'm sharing the sunscreens our family loves best and why.

Sun Bum
Spray SPF - I know that sprays aren't always the best, but for myself and my teens it's easy to apply and does that job. We LOVE Sun Bum because it smells great and works great. (Note: I do not know why this is only SPF15 - I do not recommend 15, I must have purchased it by accident. In general we wear SPF30.)
Cool Down - It never fails someone gets a little sunburn at some point on vacation or over the summer. This after sun lotion truly works! It feels great on the skin and helps calm it after a day in the sun.

Coola
Spray SPF - This is by far my most favorite sunscreen. It smells incredible and feels so smooth on the skin. Unfortunately it's very expensive. So I only grab it on sale and often times won't share it with my family. (haha - they don't mind though! Promise.)
Face SPF - My daughter's face is super sensitive to sunscreen. Over the years we have had chapped skin, cracked skin or tons of pain and stinging from different SPFs. As a mom, it feels so helpless because we can't have her face in pain from a product OR sunburn. We have literally tried EVERYTHING and realized that mineral sunscreens do not work on her. At all. Even on her body. This face SPF has gentle ingredients and it works.

Beautycounter
Body SPF - For mineral sunscreens (which are the safest and usually have the best coverage) I like to go with creams and not sprays. This one is nice and thick and works great all over the body. We like to use it on the spots that get easily burned like shoulders since it goes on thick you know you didn't miss a spot.
Face SPF - This goes on sheer and creamy and hardly feels like sunscreen to me. Which is just how I like sunscreen! Plus it works great on it's own or layers well under makeup.
Stick SPF - This is great for toddlers and little kids since it's easy to apply, but my husband and kids like it too. When it comes to sunscreen, the easier the better... right!?!?

my winter skin favorites!

I really struggle with my skin in the winter. It always seems to be so dry and grumpy and this winter is no exception. In general I struggle with dryness on my forehead, temples and cheeks near my ears while still also struggling with some extra oils in my t-zone where I'm more prone to breakout. So I try to keep from layering on too many super thick creams because I can still get some congestion around my chin and cheeks near my nose. It's a delicate balance.

Today I am chatting all about the products I love for winter skin - in general these are products I use all year round but really lean heavily on for the cold months. If you want to take a peek at my everyday morning and evening skincare routine you can find that here. I hope some of these suggestions are helpful to you...

goop microdermabrasion scrub - I usually do 'treatments' like this at night, but I recently saw an instagram post recommending to use this in the morning. It's a game changer! This scrub is definitely on the pricey side but I can't recommend it enough - it's truly incredible. I work this in to my skin 2-3x a week in the morning. I find it removes dead skin cells from dryness and helps my skin absorb product better after use which really helps improve dry areas.

face oil - I've long been a face oil lover! A little goes a really long way and I usually only use one or two drops of this at a time. Sometimes I layer it under foundation, one or two drops, or if I am going makeup free I will do three drops. Another way I love to use it is mid-day if my skin is feeling super dry I will just take one drop and press between my fingers and then spot treat only the super dry spots (for me that is my forehead, temples and outer cheeks) to add a little glow and to make sure my skin doesn't feel tight in those areas.

eye cream - Eye cream is a must all year long, but I go a little heavier with it in the winter when the delicate skin by my eyes has a greater chance of drying out and dry skin makes wrinkles seem more pronounced (for me at least!).

overnight peel - Because I still get clogged pores and breakouts this time of year (especially in my t-zone) I still use my Overnight Peel religiously. It exfoliates and helps fight both acne and aging without drying out my skin. My skin instantly feels soft after using and I can tell the long term benefits over time of less breakouts. This is my holy grail of skincare.

cleansing balm - Cleansing balm is great at removing impurities and even makeup from the skin as a cleanser and makes for a great double cleanse product (wash your face with a foaming cleanser, then go back and wash it again with the balm - it's heaven!). But I also like to use this as a mask too. I wash my face and then massage the balm into the skin thoroughly and leave it on for 5-15 minutes. It soaks in so well and leaves your skin incredibly hydrated after rinsing it off (I like to use a warm wash cloth to rinse it off).

foaming face cleanser - If your skin feels super tight and dry after washing it I highly recommend you try this face wash. My skin feels CLEAN but not tight or super dry. It's so gentle but also so effective.

daily body lotion - This body lotion is the best. Super thick and not heavily scented, it's incredible for dry winter skin all over your body.

supreme cream - If you are experiencing a lot of dryness or just love to slather on the night cream this time of year (I feel ya, I have those days too!) this night cream is NEXT LEVEL. Compared to La Mer for a fraction of the price this overnight cream is the best of the best. Just a tiny bit goes a long way and you will love how it makes your skin feel.

lip jellies - my lips seem to be chapped about 23 out of the 24 hours, anyone else? These jellies are are super soft and hydrating and not sticky with a tiny, tiny hint of color and amazing scents. They are stashed all over my house (desk, bathroom, side table in my bedroom, my purse, my car) and I am obsessed!

coconut bath soak - I LOVE a bath in the winter. But it can dry my skin out some... but this bath soak makes your skin SO soft!

back to basics skin care!

Beautycounter has a limited time 20% off offer for NEW clients right now (use code: CLEANFORALL20) so I thought I would pull together my favorite basics. It's never a bad time to start with clean beauty... if you are feeling overwhelmed with where to start I suggest just swapping out a product or two as your existing products run out. It's a great way to dip your toe in!

You can find my entire safe morning and evening routine here (with some cheats for when I am feeling lazy!) and you can even find the products my teens use here.

from left:
Countermatch Foaming Face Wash - simple and effective at removing makeup and oil without leaving your face tight or dehydrated.

CounterSun Face SPF - a mineral formula that is safe and effective and feels light as air on your face! Not an easy feat for an SPF!

Countermatch Day Cream - need a simple and clean daily moisturizer? This is it! Feels great on the skin without being heavy.

Vitamin C Serum - the best tool against sun damage in the future and repairing what is there. This is potent and feels lovely on the skin. If you suffer from sun spots or melasma this is a great place to start!

Overnight Resurfacing Peel - there is NO actual peeling that takes place here... it's just a gentle exfoliator you wear overnight. Your skin feels soft instantly and over time it helps diminish age spots, sun spots, acne scaring and even helps keep acne away to begin with using AHAs and BHAs. If you buy one thing, make it this!

Facial Oil - this is the very first product I tried from BC like 6 years ago! It's super moisturizing without feeling greasy. I use it day or night if I'm feeling dry or even sometimes mid day for a little extra glow.

Countertime Serum - GLOW in a bottle! I use this day and night (after Vitamin C or after Resurfacing Peel). It's formulated with Backuchiol which is a safe retinol alternative. So you get the benefits of retinol without some of the harsh side effects that often come with it.

Countertime Eye Cream - I swear by this an use it morning and night. Better than botox in my opinion!

Lip Gloss - if you are just getting started with safe beauty or want to go to the next level I highly recommend first swapping out your lip gloss. It's right on your lips and likely to be ingested... so why not make sure it's safe? Shown here: Peony & Raspberry

My favorites at the Sephora sale!

The Sephora Sale is HERE! With either 10% (starts 11/5), 15% or 20% off your entire order depending on your VIB status. It's FREE to join VIB and I highly recommend joining if you shop at Sephora either once a year or once a month (or more!). There are tons of great benefits throughout the year including this sale and other free gift sets and sales throughout the year. You all know I am ALL about SAFE BEAUTY and while it used to be tough to find really good safe beauty brands at Sephora - lately it's been so easy and I definitely have a few favorites that I stock up on during this sale.  Let's take a look at some of my favorites - they are all clean and safe beauty so you don't have to worry about potentially dangerous ingredients on your skin.

top row, from left:
jade roller, If you've never tried a jade roller I can't recommend it enough. There are tons of tutorials on google and Pinterest but once you get the hang of it, it's SO easy. I use it *almost* every morning to help with debuffing my face, specifically my eyes. I can tell a difference instantly!
TLC Baby Facial, This is SUPER powered at home facial and probably the strongest I've ever tried. But it's GREAT for combatting acne and just overall doing a reset on the skin. I use it about 2x a week for a total refresh and it helps clear up mask-cne really well too!
Herbivore Coconut bath soak, winter is BATH season for me. Boy do I love a good soak. This is one of my favorite bath accoutrements. It smells really nice and instantly makes my skin so soft. This one is great for dry winter skin.

middle row, from left:
D Bronzi gel drops, I love to mix this with my sunscreen in the summer or a little face oil in the winter for a no makeup look. It adds just a little color to the skin!
Slip hair ties, these are pricey but man are they amazing. My hair was breaking from regular hair ties so badly and I've been using these much more (hey, I love to pull back my hair!) and especially when I sleep. Plus they never pull or feel too tight. These would make great gifts for teens and tween too!
Nudesse candle, This has been on my wishlist forever. I can not handle how cute the packaging is!

bottom row, from left:
Goop Glow Microderm Scrub, I can not even handle how amazing this stuff is. I first ordered the sample size to try and was blown away. It's an amazing exfoliator. I recently tried it in the shower first thing for the day and it's so much easier to apply and rinse in the shower and also leaves your skin silky smooth for the day!
Phlur perfume, I love this scent and while I still wear some "regular" perfumes I try to wear this clean option as much as possible. Perfumes are known in the safe beauty industry as one of the biggest offenders with potentially harmful ingredients since perfume makers aren't required to disclose ingredients due to "proprietary" information. It's a loophole that brands use to get out of disclosing what exactly is in their products.
Drunk Elephant Retinol, I don't use retinol a lot but when I do it's this one. It's quite strong and definitely effective. I want to start using it more but I personally have to take it slow with this product (which is good! It means it's working!) so right now I only use it about 1 or 2x a week.

4 beauty tools I swear by!

The only thing better than some amazing beauty products are really great beauty tools! I'm a little bit of a skeptic when it comes to tools and these days there are SO many on the market. I have a few tried and true and I'm excited to chat about them today. I've owned all of them for over two years (minus the ice roller which is newer to me, but when you know, you know...) so I can truly attest that they work and are worth the money.

GloPRO Microneedling (or add this one to your wishlist for the NSale!)
I snagged this from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in 2018. I use it about 2-3x a month unless my skin is feeling out of sorts and then I will up it to 2-3x a week for a while. It operates on the premise of making tiny little "damages" to your skin to alert the skin to "repair".  The "repair" reaction is more intense than the "damage" and you can see some amazing results with this.  It feels a little like velcro on the skin, it doesn't hurt but maybe falls more into the "hurts so good" category. I will say that I do purchase a replacement head every year or so, and that makes a big difference.  I use it when I feel a break out coming on or when my skin feels particularly dull. I make sure to focus on areas that need the most help. For me that is any breakouts (it seems to help heal them quicker!), spots that wrinkle easily (my smile lines), my jaw line (which according to my genetics is going to sag) and any age/sun spots.  I follow it up with this line up of products and my skin looks and feels amazing in the morning! Just note that after using this you will want to avoid any glycolic or aha/bha products that evening. They can STING. Also make sure you clean the head with alcohol after every use!

I got this in a PR package years ago and never really used it. But on a whim I tried it and was instantly hooked. It's the most amazing deep clean you can get for your skin. And since it's all silicon it won't harbor any bacteria or germs like other scrub brush tools. I simply wet my face, apply the cleanser right to the silicon front of the Luna and turn it on and let it scrub my face. Mine has a timer so you know when to switch spots on your face. I can't recommend this enough! It's also really great for teen skincare too since it's such an amazing deep clean.

I use this every morning. It's SO GOOD. I have watched a few YouTube videos and then mostly just do what feels best or like what my face needs. I usually wake up with puffy eyes from allergies and just old age (haha!) and I have found that this helps wipe away the sleepy/puffy look from my face and eyes so well. Some videos suggest doing this overtop of products. But I do mine on my bare face before washing it or hoping in the shower. I prefer to do it dry on my face, it seems to roll better.

I love and hate this. It feels amazing! But I will admit that sometimes I am a wimp in the winter and it's TOO cold. You could always leave it on the counter while you shower to let it warm a touch. But the cold is the key to helping depute your skin.  You could double up with the ice roller and then the jade roller, or just do one or the other. The ice roller is also awesome for headaches on your forehead, soothing kids with fevers or even temporary relief from bug bites or minor burns. It's really so handy!

I would love to know what your favorite beauty tool. I am already planning out my next beauty tool purchase!

easy zoom-ready hair with Herbal Essences!

This post is sponsored by Herbal Essences and Shopstyle.  All opinions are my own.
Thank you for supporting the brands that support this blog!

At-home hair care has never been more important than it has been the last few months. The last few months have shown me that sometimes it's the small things like feeling good about our hair that can help us get through challenging days. In an effort to preserve my cut and color while taking a longer than average break from my stylist I found choosing the right hair care products has been key. A good shampoo & conditioner, a really great deep conditioner and a break from damaging heat styling has helped tremendously.

For the last month I have been using Herbal Essences' Potent Aloe Collections that features sustainably harvested Aloe Vera.  The Herbal Essences bio:renew collection contains real botanicals endorsed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew so it's no surprise my hair has been feeling amazing lately. Not only does it feel great, it smells great too! Herbal Essences is the first-ever global hair care brand to have real botanicals endorsed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Even being terribly overdue for a trim my ends feel good as new since the potent aloe ingredient works to protect my hair from damage.

I've simplified my styling routine big time these days.  On the days I deep condition my hair with the Herbal Essences Coconut Milk + Aloe Hair mask, I usually let my hair air dry in a bun to avoid excess heat damage. This mask is sulfate free (so it's color safe), paraben free and certified PETA cruelty-free. It's scent is floral with coconut and it leaves my hair smelling like summer.

On days when I have Zoom calls or errands I have a new trick! I wash my hair with the Herbal Essences Potent Aloe + Hemp shampoo and conditioner.  Then I blow dry my hair and simply curl four to five pieces on each side at the front only. It takes less than two minutes and gives a nice soft curl. It's like an ultra stylish stay-at-home mullet. Business in the front, casual in the back.

I'm always looking critically at the ingredients in my beauty products. That is why I was pleased to learn that Herbal Essences bio:renew Anti-Frizz Potent Aloe + Hemp Shampoo and Conditioner is verified by the strict safety standards of EWG (Environmental Working Group). The Potent Aloe collections are available at Walmart in stores and online, I highly recommend giving them a try!

4 safe beauty treatments with immediate results!

I've never been as loyal and diligent with my beauty products as I have over the past three months. We are just starting to come out of the stay at home order here in Michigan and the combination of lots of extra time on my hands and spas being closed has me fully depending on at-home treatments. Today I am rounding up 4 of my favorite at home beauty treatments that give immediate results. And BONUS - they are all safe for your skin too!

Powerful ingredients doesn't have to equate to harsh or unsafe ingredients and these products prove that. Let's take a look at 4 of my favorite at home treatments that give immediate results and feel just like a trip to the spa!

(from left to right)

Drunk Elephant Babyfacial - I have raved about this product for years and it's still a favorite. I try to use it once per week for a deep clean and exfoliation. I use about 2-3 pumps to cover my entire face and one bottle lasts about a year for me at this pace. In the evening on clean skin you will experience a little tingling at first, then you let the product sit for 15-30 minutes. If you are just starting out with Babyfacial maybe even start with 10 minutes. Then I rinse with a warm washcloth. You will immediately feel softer and smoother skin. It's unlike any product I have tried before!  I also highly recommend this product if you struggle with acne. If I feel a pimple coming on I make sure to do this mask before bed. And sometimes my son will use it on his teenage acne breakouts. It works great at exfoliating blackheads too. (Note: If you have large areas of breakouts or open skin I would avoid this until your face is more healed as it can sting quite badly on open skin) After you rinse Drunk Elephant recommends following it with a simple facial oil (a small sample of their Marula Oil is included FREE in the box) or I use this one.

Goop Glow Microderm Instant Glow Exfoliator - This is a new-ish product to me in just the last 2 months or so. I've used it three times and each time I have been blown away by the results. The instructions say to gently scrub this exfoliator into damp skin. Then to let it sit for 5-10 minutes once it's been well massaged into the skin. Then I rinse with water (a washcloth doesn't get the microbeads off my skin as well as splashing my face with warm water) and do my entire PM skin care routine after. I know it's not great to touch your skin once it's clean - but I promise you, you will be so tempted to touch it because it's so unbelievably soft! I purchased the smaller size to start and so far I would guesstimate that it has about 6 uses.

Goop Glow 15% Glycolic Acid Overnight Peel- If you are all about the BURN when it comes to skincare treatments and love a product that really packs a punch - this is the one for you! In the evening you will wash your face and then apply this overnight peel.  When you open the packet there is one product soaked cotton applicator that you slip on two fingers like a little puppet and then sweep over your face. One side has a harsher cotton texture and one side has a softer texture. You can alternate between the two sides as you like. Then after that - you don't touch it! It tingles and burns (a good burn, I promise!) initially and then becomes kind of dry and sticky. I don't love the stickiness, but for the results I am willing to put up with it. You don't apply any other products for the night and wait to rinse it off in the morning. Again, the stickiness wasn't my favorite (it had disappeared by morning) but when I woke up my skin was soft and smooth and definitely had that GLOW! (don't worry, your skin won't actually "peel" after using this - or it shouldn't)

Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel - While the other three products are for use once a week or every other week - this is something I use almost everynight (but I wouldn't combine it with any other treatment here in this post). You can see the full order of products I do every evening here to see how I incorporate it.  You will notice that your skin is softer after only one use! But what I love the most is that over the long term you will see amazing results too. Not only does this product work to make your skin glowy and reduce fine lines it also does amazing at keeping acne away. I have used this religiously for 2 years (-ish!?!?) and have seen my adult acne clear up almost completely. This is also great for teens to use for acne as well. You definitely want to be using it 2-3 nights a week minimum to be seeing long term effects. Plus, it's about half the price of it's competitor and doesn't have the harsh scent.
